College Finances

In order to apply to college, it is important to know what your plan for financing your education will be.

Traditionally, students attend either a Private or Public University.

  • Private Universities do not receive aid from the federal government and must rely on their personal endowments. Most endowments grow through donations from businesses, past alumni, or families of alumni. Certain schools may have larger endowments than others, dictating how much of their money they use for financial aid.

  • Public universities usually rely on federal aid. Thus, public universities are a bit cheaper, however, they may have fewer financial resources available.

Regardless of whether you want to attend a public or private institution, you will still need to fill out the FAFSA form. This is the Federal Form to apply for federal aid from the government. The form is very easy to follow and you will need to create an account and complete the form with a parent. The form can be found at:

If you are planning to apply to any private universities, you must complete the CSS form through the College Board.

The form can be found at https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org/?navId=www-css.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU FILL THIS FORM OUT WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN
